Naval Academy plants flags in honor of lives lost on 9/11; One midshipman’s flag honors his uncle, an academy grad, who died

Midshipman First Class A.J. Panik’s flag was one of the 14 larger flags, each representing one of the Naval Academy graduates who lost their lives Sept. 11. Panik’s, in particular, honored Lt. Jonas Panik, a 1997 graduate and the midshipman’s uncle.
